Shisha head

A shisha bowl is an essential part of a hookah that contains the tobacco or substitutes such as steam stones or flavored paste. It sits on top of the smoke column and is covered with coals to heat the tobacco and produce smoke. The function of a shisha bowl is to heat the tobacco evenly and direct the resulting smoke into the smoke column, from where it passes through the hose into the mouthpiece and finally into the lungs.

Shisha head types and attachments

There are different types of shisha heads, including e-shisha heads, stone heads, clay heads, shisha silicone heads, firebrick heads and modern glass heads. Some common attachments are chimney attachments, HMDs (Heat Management Devices), OneSmoke or aluminum foil. You can also use specific attachments like the Dschinni Seflex head sieve to optimize the smoke flow.

Shisha head design and features

Shisha heads can be glazed or unglazed. A glazed design prevents the head from "bleeding" and makes cleaning easier. Different designs accommodate different amounts of tobacco, from tobacco-saving heads that hold between 10 and 12 grams to larger heads with a larger depot for group sessions. There are multi-hole heads and single-hole heads (phunnels), with the phunnel being particularly valued for its even heat distribution and flavor stability.

Tips for buying and building a shisha head

If you want to buy a new shisha head, it is important to dispose of the old, dirty head. To prevent a bleeding head, make sure the head is well glazed. The head should be easy to clean to avoid mold, and there are heads for different purposes, from heads for 1 person to heads for multi-hose shishas.

Correct filling and lighting

When filling the shisha head, the tobacco should be loose and not pressed too tightly to prevent the holes from becoming clogged. When lighting, you can use aluminum foil or special attachments such as chimney attachments or HMDs. Make sure that the aluminum foil is stretched tightly and that there is enough distance from the tobacco to avoid burns.

Cleaning and care

To ensure the longevity of your shisha, the shisha head should be cleaned regularly. Use hot aluminum foil or special brushes to remove all residues. Clean other parts of the shisha regularly as well to avoid unpleasant odors and mold growth.
