Shisha Etiquette - Rules of conduct for the shared Shisha session

Shisha Knigge – Verhaltensregeln für die gemeinsame Shisha Session

Shisha smoking is now a widespread, popular custom that is gaining more and more followers . It is all the more important to know a few unspoken rules of conduct, which are very important in some countries and which ensure that your shisha session is definitely a comfortable and relaxed affair for everyone.

The shisha – a communal experience

Of course, you can also treat yourself to a shisha on your own, but smoking shisha is originally a sign of hospitality and therefore a communal event. The shisha should never be higher than the smoker, as this is considered impolite. That's why it traditionally stands on the floor. Especially if there are several hookahs in use, you should never position your hookah higher than the others, as this can be perceived as disrespecting other smokers.

During the shisha round

When the shisha is ready, you can start smoking. You should only ever use special shisha tobacco for your head, as dry tobacco scratches your throat and doesn't taste particularly good. Incidentally, the charcoal tongs are not a suitable tool for placing the tobacco in the bowl , as they can distort the taste due to charcoal residue. It's best to use a small spoon or a genie stirring stick to help yourself to the tobacco.

While smoking, it is important that there is a relaxed, calm atmosphere, which is why you tend to have quiet conversations and not become hectic. So it's best to always plan enough time when meeting friends for a shisha session. Additionally, you should never reach for the hookah hose when someone is still using it. It's best not to just pass the hose on, but to place it on the table or attach it to the hose holder so that the next person can take it without feeling pressured to smoke.

Shisha enjoyment and cigarettes - an absolute no-go

Who does not know it. You are sitting in a shisha bar, surrounded by aromatic, soft shisha smoke and suddenly someone lights a cigarette and spoils the olfactory spectacle. But cigarette smoke is not the only problem. The cigarette in between distorts the unique taste of the shisha for the smoker and should therefore simply be left in the box.

With these principles of shisha etiquette, the shisha session becomes a pleasant and cozy experience for everyone, where you can really unwind.
