Dschinni Tobacco - A look behind the scenes of tobacco production

Dschinni Tobacco - Ein Blick hinter die Kulissen der Tabakherstellung

There are now a dime a dozen brands of shisha tobacco, but there are still huge differences in quality and taste. This is not only due to the ingredients and composition of shisha tobacco, but also to the production itself. Here you can get a little insight into the world of shisha tobacco .

Shisha tobacco and its components

In principle, shisha tobacco is nothing more than raw tobacco, like the one used in cigarettes, to which flavors are added to mask the typical taste of the tobacco and make it a fruity treat. The raw tobacco therefore forms the basis for every shisha tobacco. At Dschinni we use Virginia tobacco because it contains far less nicotine than its darker alternatives such as Burley tobacco and Co. Of course there is also Dark Leaf tobacco made from dark tobacco varieties, but the smoke from Dark Leaf tobacco is difficult to inhale and rather Suitable for cigars or tobacco pipes. Virginia tobacco, on the other hand, is more pleasant to smoke, has a longer shelf life and the flavors are much better, which is why you don't have to add as much flavor.

The shisha flavors

Contrary to what many people assume, flavors are actually the smallest component in shisha tobacco. Depending on the quality of the tobacco, this proportion is 1-18%. The aromas can be obtained from natural fruits, but can also be produced synthetically and are highly complex. A flavor, such as strawberry, can consist of up to 134 components. A distinction is also made between oil-based flavors and water-based flavors. However, oil-based flavors are banned under the latest tobacco regulations because they can burn and therefore release more pollutants. There are also big differences in quality when it comes to flavors: cheap flavors usually disappear very quickly, which ultimately affects the taste. High-quality aromas, on the other hand, promise a long-lasting taste. Flavors obtained from natural fruits also have a much more authentic aroma than those produced synthetically, which often simply taste chemical.

Shisha tobacco retains its moisture through glycerin

An essential ingredient in shisha tobacco is glycerin. Glycerin is used because of its water-binding properties, which protect the tobacco from drying out. It is therefore an ideal humectant so that the tobacco does not burn so quickly. But glycerin can do much more. It also ensures that the shisha tobacco lasts longer. In addition, a high moisture content in tobacco naturally produces denser vapor. For beautiful puffy clouds of smoke, a high glycerin content in the tobacco is the be-all and end-all.

Honey molasses: honey in shisha tobacco?

Honey molasses also protects the tobacco from drying out and thus from burning too quickly. However, the term “honey molasses” is somewhat misleading. In the past, natural honey was actually added to shisha tobacco , but this is no longer competitive today due to rising prices. That's why people now use sugar cane syrup or invert sugar instead of honey.

Dschinni Shisha Tobacco: From raw material to taste experience

During the production of the tobacco, the perfect composition of the various components to create a harmonious end product is important. The first step is always the careful selection of raw materials. We use the strictest selection criteria for the components of our Dschinni Shisha tobacco and independently carry out quality control to ensure that our specifications are actually met. That's why the majority of the ingredients for our tobacco come from Germany. This allows us to counteract quality problems in a timely manner and delivery bottlenecks occur much less often.

The basic tobacco

The raw tobacco is not purchased from us already cut, but rather delivered in a rough condition and then sifted by us. During screening, the tobacco is removed from solid components such as leaf veins or thick stems and dust. What remains are solid tobacco leaves, which form the basis for the optimal consistency of our Genie tobacco. The tobacco leaves must then be dried in order to get rid of the residual moisture and to better absorb the aromas, glycerin and honey molasses. The following applies here: the drier the tobacco, the better the other components can be absorbed.

The mixture of shisha tobacco

The exact mixture and the process behind it are different for every tobacco manufacturer and are usually as well-kept secrets as grandma's favorite recipes. We'll only reveal this much - the components can be present in tobacco as follows:

15% tobacco

40% glycerin

11% aroma

34% sugar

The ingredients are mixed in a specially made device with negative pressure for hours until a homogeneous product is created. The mass is then packed into a filler and taken to the dosing device, where the tobacco is portioned and filled into cans. To allow the flavors to mature, the cans remain unsealed for at least 6-8 weeks. Aromas only develop properly when exposed to oxygen, which is why this step is extremely important. When the tobacco has had enough time to steep, the cans are sealed airtight and delivered.

Genie criteria

At Dschinni we have high demands on the shisha tobacco we produce ourselves. It has to meet certain criteria, otherwise it won't come onto the market. We attach particular importance to the fact that our shisha tobacco only consists of selected ingredients, such as natural flavors, and ensures an intense taste and a long smoking time. In addition to the duration of smoking, the smoke production is of course also important to us and a pleasant smoking experience is also particularly important to us, which is why our tobacco does not pinch or scratch your throat. We are happy to take a few extra steps to offer you excellent quality and distinctive shisha tobacco.
